Community Mural Weekend: Projecting & Outlining Wall Saturday July 25! Art+Community | Grassroots Community Made | Independent Art Making Art happen!
Saturday night we had 2 different projectors, and 2 generators going at either ends of the wall at the same time.. As we lined up the image on each end of the the wall, a 10-20 person crew split up and sprayed outlines from the projections. After each of the 4 sections was projected we met in the middle at the 5th. The thing that took the longest for each of the 5 sections was the wiggling around of the projectors to get them proportional and lined up. Once the spraying began, it went quickly. We had the whole skeleton design of the mural guidelined out in 2 hours!
Priming of the wall: neighbors from Medill who lent us electricity came by to see what we were doing and hung out with us.Uneekd sprays and David follows priming the sky. Community Mural Weekend: Priming & Prepping Wall Friday, July 24! Art+Community | Grassroots Community Made | Independent Art Making Art happen!
For 5 years AnySquared & ABC’s Project Logan have maintained the Community Wall at Medill. Needed touch-ups have required repainting over much of the original mural.
When AnySquared organized the old mural on the community wall 5 year ago, we remember how difficult the bumpy wall was to roll and how long it took to prime. Because of that AnySquared & ABC decided to budget some of our benefit funds to hire Uneek to prime our wall quickly in one night.
On Friday, July 24th Flash ABC came armed with print outs from a file that Tracy from AnySquared prepared earlier in the day with the grid of colors. With three 5-gallon buckets of donated paint in green, blue, and grey, Flash and Tracy embarked on guiding Uneek on where the colors go.
We ran into a power glitch with the generator and sprayer and tried a few different things. After a while, Attitude7 walked the block on Medill and asked Sarah, a nearby neighbor, if she could donate some electricity to run the sprayer from an extension cord. After a and hour two delay, and with the help of this wonderful neighbor’s power, the spraying began. We were out on Friday until 1:30 or 2am, but the job got done and ready for Saturday!
We’ll have paint materials. Come dressed for painting. All welcome! All Ages. Families encouraged.
